東京アートブックフェアを参加アートバイト講評団アーティストの8人について。

2014から毎年東京アートブックフェアに参加しています。2020年の今回はアートバイト講評団の8人が参加しています。

Deanna Gabigaは、「アートアドベンチャー」のアーティストブックシリーズから3冊の新刊を発表します。 彼女の目を通して、彼女のスケッチ、どの作品が楽しかったのか、その理由をご覧ください。彼女のスケッチブックのログには、写真や色使い、意外な発見などが掲載されています。 ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、アジアの国際的に有名な美術館を巡り、彼女のアートの冒険を紹介しています。 冒険は友達と一緒に楽しむのが一番です。 

Arthur Huangは、「日々ドローイングコレクション：スター・エディション」を発表します。 これらのドローイングは、マークメイキングと、ページ上のマークに対する彼の直感的な反応に焦点を当てて、その瞬間に描かれています。 これらのドローイングに込められた言語を理解するために、彼はスタジオでの実践の中で様々なアプローチでドローイングを分析してきました。 シリーズ第2弾となる本作では、2017年以降、カナダのインディーズ/ポップバンド「Stars」を聴きながら制作した「Daily Drawings」をまとめ、ドローイングのサブセットの中にある関係性を探りながら、ドローイングの日付や順番をチャート化していきます。

Yuko Kameiは、「ワークス·オブ·ヒート」と題した新作を発表している。地球を形づくる熱エネルギーに触発された写真シリーズを本にしました。広げると1枚の写真としても見ることができます。

Eva Liは、「インディーショッパー 」と題した新作を発表します。「インディーショッパー 」は東京および東京周辺の8の個店をテーマにしたアートブックです。黒い縫い糸を使い、各店の外観·内観をセピアトーンのリネン生地にミシンで縫い上げました。このファブリックブックには、KYOKO - THE DOG IN DISGUISEという名前のぬいぐるみ犬が付いています。この本は著者が好きなBBCのテレビ番組、パディントン(1976-1980。原作はマイケル·ボンドの"PADDINGTON BEAR")にインスパイアされました。

Janette Maxeyは、新作「癒しのネコたち」を発表します。多くの人々と同様、パンデミックが起きてから長い間何かに集中することができなくなっていました。私は精神的、物質的に存在するものを描き始めたのです。 我が家のネコを描く事は癒しになりますが、彼らは動き回るので、時間を与えてくれません。 ボディーランゲージと色、照明を素早く汲み取る必要があります。 第一章の作品は付箋に細いマーカーで描いたもの、第二章はクラフト紙にアクリリックガッシュ絵具で描いたものです。 日々絵を描くことで、集中できるようになり、不安な気持ちが和らいでいったのです。

Misako Obaは、「時空を超えて」という同名のオリジナル·アート作品シリーズから、新作アートブック、二種類を発表します。「愛を求めて ～女の気持ち～」 Vol. 1は、恋の歌10首10点の作品の画と、関連する小倉百人一首、英訳を収録したもので、日本ではまだ馴染みの薄い「エンコースティック」という蜜ロウを含む絵具でのモノタイプ版画技法によるアート表紙も特徴のひとつです。ミニサイズの「時空を超えて」和歌・ジン(zine) の方は、さらに現代日本語訳と5-7-5-7-7の英語和歌も入っており、全ページが和紙にエンコースティックのモノタイプ。前後上下から開けるユニークなもの。どちらも手製本でバリエーションが選べ、オブジェとして飾ることもできます。古代から現代、国境を超えても共通する普遍的な人間の感情、性（さが）をテーマとしています。　

Lori Onoは、現在進行形でキノコに興味を持ち続けている3つの作品を発表します。  1つ目は「エリンギの本」で、エリンギの形をしたポリマー粘土の表紙と紙のページで構成されたコンチェルティーナ形式の本です。 2作目は「Pop Out Mushrooms」。ポリマー粘土のキノコの表紙を持つケースの中に、キノコのイラストが飛び出すコンチェルティーナ風の本です。  3作目のリリースは「Pop Out Night Mushrooms」 - 暗闇で光るキノコのイラストが飛び出すコンチェルティーナ形式の本。ケースの中のキノコはインクと絵の具で手描きされています。 現在、アヤタナアーティスト研究プログラムのマイコフィリア・アーティスト・レジデンシーに参加している。

Nick Westは、「Books From Things」シリーズの最近の作品と新作を発表しています。モジュール化された作品を制作するウェストは、アッサンブラージュの技法を用いてこれらの作品を制作しています。

Below is information about each artist’s new releases that will be on our virtual table and wall at V/TABF 2020.

Deanna Gabiga will be presenting three new books from her Art Adventure artist book series. See the works through her eyes, her sketches, which artworks which she enjoyed and the reasons why. Her sketchbook logs contain photographs, colorways, and surprising findings. These books share her art adventures through internationally-renown museums in Europe, the United States, and Asia. Bring another along, adventures are best enjoyed with friends. 

Arthur Huang is releasing “daily drawings collection: the stars edition” Derived from his ongoing almost, sometimes not so much, daily practice where he makes drawings during his commutes on trains and buses. These drawings are made in the moment focusing on mark making and his intuitive response to the marks on the page. To try and understand the language in these drawings, he has been taking various approaches to analyzing them in his studio practice. This release, the second in this series, compiles all the Daily Drawings he has made since 2017 while listening to the Canadian indie/pop band Stars and charts the dates and order of these drawings looking for relationships within this subset of drawings.

Yuko Kamei is presenting a new release entitled "Works of Heat" which is a photographic series inspired by the process in which heat energy forms the Earth. Dough is attached to stones and oven baked to simulate how bedrock transforms during volcanic activity, resulting in a new landscape whose surface is akin to that of rocks. This book folds and unfolds, allowing one to see the results individually and collectively similar to asteroids floating in space.

Eva Li will be presenting a new release entitled “The Indie Shopper”  "The Indie Shopper” is an artist book featuring independent shops in and around Tokyo. The message is to support independent shops selling quality and handcrafted products. There will be ten shops, each shop's exterior/interior will be stitched in monotone using black sewing thread on sepia toned linen fabric. The fabric book comes with a dog character (Kyoko Dog in Disguise) bookmark.  The monotone book with a colourful dog plush bookmark concept is from my childhood favourite animated television series Paddington in the late 1970s.

Janette Maxey will present her new release “Cats for Comfort: Daily Drawings and Paintings in Covid-19 Quarantine”  Like so many people, the COVID-19 pandemic has really challenged her ability to focus on anything for a long period of time.  She works with what she has, mentally and materially. She has been taking comfort in drawing and painting her cats but they don't give her much time so they must be made quickly.  Drawing and painting only for as long as they want to stay still, she swiftly responds to their body language, colors, and light. The first group of images is on Post-Its using black Sharpie markers, the second group of images is in a brown paper journal using gouache.

Misako Oba is presenting two new releases from her “Beyond Time and Space” series, which extend her mixed media encaustic work into the art book form. One is entitled “Cry for LOVE - What Women Feel” Vol. 1, which contains Misako Oba's 10 encaustic mixed media artworks from the series, a reflection of common emotions that she found in the ancient Japanese poems called, Hakunin Isshu (100 poems by 100 poets), the anthology of ca. 7th-13th century Japanese Waka poems. This book features desperate love poems from it and the English translation is also provided by the artist along with the images and the original Waka. You can choose the art front cover made with encaustic monotype. “Beyond Time Waka poem” (zines) are made with all encaustic monotype pages on Japanese calligraphy/Washi paper. In addition to each original Waka and the English translation, modern Japanese translation and English Waka poem is in the book. This book can be opened from every angle. Both books can be also displayed as an object.

Lori Ono is presenting three releases exploring her ongoing interests with mushrooms.  The first is the "Book of Eringi" - a concertina-style book with paper pages and a polymer clay cover shaped like an eringi mushroom. Her second release is "Pop Out Mushrooms" - a concertina-style book with pop-out pages of illustrated mushrooms inside a case with a mushroom cover of polymer clay.  Lori Ono's third release is "Pop Out Night Mushrooms" - a concertina-style book with pop-out pages of illustrated glow in the dark mushrooms.The polymer clay mushrooms on the case glow in the dark. The mushrooms inside the case are hand-drawn with ink and glow in the dark paint. She is currently taking part in the Mycophilia Artist Residency at Ayatana Artist's Research Program.

Nick West is exhibiting recent and new work from his "Books From Things" series where he reimagines what a book can be by creating objects composed of readily available objects. Working modularly, West uses the technique of assemblage to make these works.
